ISLAMABAD: Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani on Monday maintained that there was no room for amending the blasphemy law “We want to make it clear that neither is there any room nor is there any need for amending the blasphemy law,” said CII Chairman Maulana Shirani while addressing a press conference here. He also rejected reports that the CII in its recent meeting proposed changes in the blasphemy law to award death penalty to those who misuse this law. He clarified that the CII observed that there should be punishment for those who misused any law. “The Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) in its Sections 194 and 211 provides for punishment to those with false evidence or found guilty of making false complaints under any law.”
