6 April 2016
The Muslim Council of Britain, who are the largest Muslim umbrella organisation in the UK, have issued a statement reaffirming their position on the Ahmadiyya sect as non-Muslims.

The following statement was issued by the MCB yesterday on their website:

“The Muslim Council of Britain has received requests as to where it stands with regard to the Ahmadiyya community.

“The MCB fully subscribes to pluralism and peaceful coexistence and acknowledges the rights of all to believe as they choose without coercion, fear and intimidation.

“We affirm the right of Ahmadis to their freedom of belief and reject any attacks on their property or persons. They have the right to live free from discrimination or persecution. The targeting of Ahmadis for their beliefs is totally unacceptable.

“The Muslim Council of Britain reflects the clear theological position expressed across Islamic traditions: namely that the cornerstone of Islam is to believe in One God and in the finality of the Prophethood of the Messenger Muhammad, peace be upon him. We understand that this is not a tenet subscribed to by the Ahmadi community. The MCB Constitution requires our affiliates to declare that Messenger Muhammad peace be upon him is the final prophet and whoever does not subscribe to that declaration cannot be eligible for affiliation with the MCB. Given this fundamental theological difference with the Ahmadi community, the MCB is not in a position to represent or be represented by the Ahmadi community.

“Despite our clear theological beliefs, we note that pressure is mounting to describe this community as Muslim. Muslims should not be forced to class Ahmadis as Muslims if they do not wish to do so, at the same time, we call on Muslims to be sensitive, and above all, respect all people irrespective of belief or background.

“As with all faith communities, and with genuinely held theological beliefs, we nevertheless extend our hand of friendship and cooperation for the common good of all.

“The MCB believes that all individuals and places of worship must be respected. It unequivocally condemns all forms of intimidation and violence against people of all faiths and none. The MCB condemns all attacks on all places of worship of other religions and beliefs.”

LAHORE(Pakistan): A judicial magistrate on Monday granted bail to a man arrested a day earlier for putting up anti-Ahmadi posters at his shop at Hafeez Centre – the largest IT products market in the city.

Zafar Farid Hashmi granted bail to Abid Hasan Hashmi against Rs50,000 surety bonds. The magistrate observed that the matter needed to be further investigated. He stated that the posters were also not recovered from Hashmi. Gulberg police had arrested Hashmi and one Nauman on Sunday for allegedly putting up stickers carrying remarks against the Ahmadiyya community at entrances to their shops at Hafeez Centre.

Police had later released Nauman without recording his arrest. Hashmi was presented before a magistrate on Sunday who had sent him on judicial remand. Hashmi’s lawyer submitted that he did not own the shop where the posters had been displayed. “The shop’s owner, too, is not responsible because any visitor can put up a poster there.”

Hashmi was brought to the Model Town courts complex amid stringent security arrangements.

A large number of people, including some traders from Hafeez Centre and members of a Khatm-i-Nabuwat organisation, had gathered in front of the court to protest the arrest.

They raised slogans in favour of the suspects.

The FIR registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious beliefs) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance stated that a police team had removed notices carrying derogatory remarks against the Ahmadiyya community from the entrance of the suspects’ shops at Hafeez Centre.

Traders protest against arrests

Traders from several city markets staged a protest demonstration on Monday against the arrest of two men on charges of displaying anti-Ahmadiyya slogans at the entrance to their shops.

A large number of traders and shopkeepers from Hafeez Centre, Hassan Tower, Pace and other markets and commercial areas in the area gathered outside Hafeez Centre at Gulberg’s Main Boulevard. They carried banners, posters and placards inscribed with slogans against the government and the Police Department.

Hafeez Centre Traders’ Association president Muhammad Fayyaz Butt and general secretary Sheikh Muhammad Fayyaz said it was very unfortunate that police had registered a case against one of the traders who was arrested.

“A day before the arrests, police had removed the objectionable stickers from the market. We thought the issue had been resolved. However, the next day, police arrested two traders,” he said. Gulberg police had raided Hafeez Centre on Saturday and removed objectionable stickers from two shops. Later, police had arrested the shop owners.

LAHORE(Pakistan): Gulberg police arrested two traders on Sunday for putting up notices containing degrading remarks for Ahmadiyya community at the entrance of their shops at Hafeez Centre, said a handout issued by Operations DIG Haider Ashraf. The traders identified as Abid Hashmi and Nauman were presented before a judicial magistrate who sent them on a two-week judicial remand. Police remove anti-Ahmadi posters from Lahore’s largest IT market The police sought custody of the suspects to interrogate them. The counsel for the suspect, however, submitted that there was no need for it and requested the court to send his clients on judicial remand. He told the court that his clients had been implicated in a false case. Tight security arrangements were made at the Model Town courts to avoid an untoward incident as the suspects were brought to the court. A large crowd, including some traders from Hafeez Centre, had gathered in front of the court to protest the arrests. They chanted slogans in favour of the suspects and demanded their release. Pakistan’s Ahmadis battle mob and state for identity The FIR registered under Sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religious beliefs) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) stated that a police team had removed notices carrying derogatory remarks against the Ahmediyya community from the entrance of the suspects’ shops at Hafeez Centre. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Hafeez Centre Traders’ Association president Farooq Butt had said traders from across the city would gather in front of Hafeez Centre and stage a protest against the arrests on Monday (today). “The police should refrain from intervening in matters related to our beliefs,” he said.

26 January 2015
The Gambia Islamic Council has stated the Muslim Ummah’s position on the Ahamadiya Jammat. The statement, aired by the state TV on Friday night, reads: The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, being the sole body responsible for the general activities of all Islamic affairs in the country, based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammd (peace be upon him) (“Addeenu-an-Naseeha”) has said religion is an advice, and it is the council’s obligation to clarify any misconception concerning the Islamic religion in The Gambia, based on evidence from authentic references. Therefore, the Council is hereby declaring to the general public, especially the Muslim Ummah in The Gambia on the position of the Muslim Ummah towards Qaduyanisim known as Ahmadiyaa Jamm’at. It is agreed by the entire pre-modern and modern Islamic scholars worldwide, including Pakistan the country of their origin, that Ahmadiyaa Jamm’at are not Muslims based on the following “dalils” (facts). Indeed, in spite of all what the Ahmadiyas use to quote from the Quran and Hadith, they built their beliefs on the following wrong pillars: They believe that Ghulam Ahmad is the Promised Messiah. They believe that Allah the Almighty does fast, pray, sleep, wake, write sign, make mistakes and have sex. The Qadianis believe that prophethood was not sealed by Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him), but is continuing and God sends messengers as necessary, and that Ghulam Ahmad is the best of all the prophets. They say there is no Quran except the one brought by the Promised Messiah and no hadith except in the light of his teachings and no prophet except under the masterhood of Ghulam Ahmad. They believe that every Muslim is Kaafir until he becomes a Qadiyani and, whoever gives a non-Qadiyani a wife or who marries a non Qadiyani woman is a kaafir. They believe that it is not allowed to pray behind a non-Ahmadis (Ahmadi); that is why they created lots of disunity in some remote villages in The Gambia. The position of the Muslims towards the Ahmadiya Jammat In 1953, the people of Pakistan demonstrated and demanded the resignation of Zafarulah Khan, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, and considered the Qadiyani group a non-Muslim minority. The National Council of Pakistan (the Central Parliament) debated with the leader of the group, Mirza Nasir Ahmad. The parliament issued a decision and considered the Qadianis Ahmadist a non-Muslim minority. The Islamic Research Academy in Al-Azhar Shariff renewed its fatwa, legal opinion, that the followers of Ahmadiya are non-Muslims and confirmed that this doctrine has no relation with Islam. A general conference was held (in Makkah) at the headquarters of the Muslim World League in the month of Rabi 1 1494 AH corresponding to April 1974, and was attended by member states and representatives from the International Islamic Organizations from all over the world. The conference declared the Kufr disbelief of this group and that they are outside of the pale of Islam, and called on governments and Muslims to resist the danger they pose and not to deal with Ahmadiyas. Position of the Muslim scholars in The Gambia: They have made huge efforts to stand against this group and clarified that they are outside the pale of Islam, and that was since their appearance in the country in the 1950s. Amongst the scholars were the former Imam Ratib Imam Muhammad Lamin Bah of Banjul, Sheikh Khatab Bojang of Gunjur, Sheikh Karalang Kanteh of Seyfo, Sheikh Muhammad Lamin Federa of Kiang, Sheikh Umar Bun Jeng of Gunjur and Sheikh Jibril Mahdi Kujabi of Tallinding (may Allah have mercy on them) to name a few. Therefore, the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council is declaring that the Ahmadiya Jamaat is a non-Muslim group, which is in line with the legal opinion of the world scientific gatherings, which pronounced the group to be outside the pale of Islam and strongly recommended Muslims not to deal with them religiously.

Birmingham.18 November 2014 Last updated at 18:25
neurosurgeon has been jailed for 16 years after being found guilty of nine indecent assaults against patients at two Birmingham hospitals.
Nafees Hamid, 51, had denied a total of 15 charges relating to 10 women between 2009 and 2013 at the city’s Queen Elizabeth and Priory hospitals.
A jury at Birmingham Crown Court convicted him of assaults on six patients.
In passing sentence, the judge said it was “the most extreme breach of trust”.
Judge Patrick Thomas QC, who heard that Hamid will now be struck off, also ordered him to sign the sex offender register for life.
“Start Quote

The trust between a doctor and his patient is sacred and the fact that it has been breached in this way is despicable”

Dame Julie Moore
Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals NHS Trust
He told Hamid witnesses had spoken highly of his clinical skills, but he had been “brought low by a simple failing – lust”.

“And you exercised your lust as a result of arrogance,” he said.

“These ladies went to see you because they had significant problems and they thought – with your skills, abilities and experience – you were the person who could help them with the medical problems.

“Instead, you grossly abused them.”

During the eight-week trial the spinal surgery specialist, of Russell Road, Moseley, Birmingham, told the court some of the alleged attacks did not happen, while others were legitimate examinations which had been misconstrued.

However, one expert witness told jurors Hamid had performed “inappropriate and medically unjustifiable” examinations, ignoring General Medical Council guidelines.

‘Sickened’ colleagues
Among the victims he was convicted of assaulting was a woman in her mid-20s whose complaint led to Hamid’s arrest in November 2013.

The patient, who cannot be named, told jurors she felt “frozen to the spot” as she was subjected to an assault at the private Priory Hospital in 2013.

The eight other counts on which Hamid was convicted relate to five women who attended hospital for a variety of complaints between January and September 2012.

Det Insp Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police, praised the first woman for her courage in coming forward.

“She went home, spoke to her family, and straight away contacted the police,” he said.

Mr Ingram said the delays in the other five victims coming forward showed the “power” Hamid had over them.
“He was in that position of trust. They doubted whether they would be believed, doubted whether it was medically justified what he had done,” he said.
He said police could not rule out the chance that more patients were abused by Hamid.

“It may be that we get further victims come forward. It’s important that if they do, we will help them,” Det Insp Ingram continued.

“And it might show that it’s been occurring over a longer period.”

The Crown Prosecution Service said Hamid had used his position to carry out “intrusive and inappropriate examinations on vulnerable women” to satisfy his “personal sexual gratification”.
Crown advocate Aliya Rashid said the examinations had left the women “shocked, confused, embarrassed and deeply upset”.

The court heard Hamid encouraged some of his patients to remove their clothing and on occasions, removed their clothes himself without a chaperone present.
‘Brought disrepute’
Speaking after the conclusion of the trial Dame Julie Moore, chief executive of Queen Elizabeth University Hospitals NHS Trust, said she and her colleagues had been “sickened” by the surgeon’s actions.

“We’re deeply sorry that these offences have occurred and brought disrepute to his profession,” she said.

“The trust between a doctor and his patient is sacred and the fact that it has been breached in this way is despicable.”

The Priory Hospital said safety was its first priority and Hamid’s contract was suspended as soon as concerns came to light and had set up a dedicated phone line for patients who might have concerns.

The Queen Elizabeth hospital trust said it would now complete its own investigation.

Its inquiries have already revealed an email from a patient sent to the trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service in 2009, complaining of “inappropriate behaviour” by Hamid during an outpatient appointment.
The trust said its executive team were not aware of the email until letters were sent out to the surgeon’s patients in November 2013.

It said the member of staff who dealt with this complaint no longer works at the Trust and guidelines had been reinforced to current staff.
11 September 2014
A respected neurosurgeon sexually assaulted ten of his female patients before falsifying their medical records to ‘cover his tracks’, a court heard yesterday.
Nafees Hamid, 50, is accused of groping the women, aged between 22 and 66, during medical examinations, often while making lewd sexual remarks.
Hamid was aroused while he made the ‘intimate examinations’, Birmingham Crown Court heard.
A jury was told he would either ask the women to remove their clothes, or on some occasions remove them himself without warning.
He would then touch them inappropriately and repeatedly, sometimes for prolonged periods and without wearing surgical gloves, the court heard.
Some of the alleged victims were also complimented on their physical appearance and asked invasive questions about their sexual history. According to neurosurgeon Patrick Stratham, the doctor had no reason to carry out such medical examinations and most women were experiencing unrelated problems with their necks and spines.
Hamid, who worked at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the city’s private Priory clinic for more than a decade, denies 14 counts of sexual assault between May 2009 and June last year.
Jonas Hankin, QC, prosecuting, told the court: ‘Nafees Hamid was a consultant in neurosurgery who dealt with disorders affecting the skull, spine and nervous system.
‘It is the prosecution’s case that he performed unnecessary and medically unjustifiable intimate examinations on each of the ten women.
‘He ignored General Medical Council guidelines about intimate examinations and failed to record the examination’s findings in case records so as to cover his tracks.
‘His purpose in touching the private parts of these women was not medical but sexual.
‘In failing to observe the first rule of medicine, to do no harm, he betrayed the trust of his patients and his fellow professionals.’ He said that Hamid often ‘avoided having a chaperone’, which any patient can legally ask for during medical examinations.

One patient, who was the first to report the alleged crimes last November, told officers that he had asked her to lie on a bed then, when she looked away, he undid the button and zip on her skirt.
‘The patient had been to see the surgeon with back and urinary problems,’ said Mr Hankin, who added that she told police Hamid had touched her intimately.
The court heard she was ‘left frozen to the spot’ before he told her ‘you are a sweet girl’. The alleged victim then ran outside the hospital and ‘burst into tears’.
The ordeal left her feeling ashamed and embarrassed,’ Mr Hankin said. ‘An expert says these examinations should have been done by a specialist gynaecologist, not a neurosurgeon.’
The jury was told about another patient, a 42-year-old woman whom he saw on several occasions who had a neck injury and resulting urinary incontinence.
Mr Hankin said: ‘He told her she had a “beautiful body”, asked her when she had orgasms, if she masturbated and then asked her to show him how.
‘The examination was entirely inappropriate as her problem was in the neck.
‘Eventually he told her he could no longer care for her as he had developed feelings for her.’
The alleged assaults at The Priory (pictured) and Queen Elizabeth hospitals are alleged to have taken place between May 2009 and June 2013
The court heard Hamid, of Moseley, Birmingham, trained in Pakistan and moved to Britain in 2000.
After the first patient reported him and a criminal investigation began, a letter was sent to all of Hamid’s female patients saying an unnamed doctor had been accused of misconduct. This is when his other victims came forward.
Mr Hankin said: ‘He will argue that in some cases what he did was medically justified and that in others that allegations are incorrect, that the assaults never happened.
‘The fact that these women reported what had happened separately makes it legitimate and not the result of malicious intention.’
The trial continues.
